Sophia Stewart (AKA Sonya) grew up in the big apple and attended the City University of New York, where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcasting/Journalism. As a young child she was very articulate and creative. By the ninth grade her academic and scholastic skills had matured to the point, where she opted to bypass entering high school and instead took the State of New York Board of Regents Test. Scoring well on the exam gave her a choice of five colleges to attend. While attending the City University of New York Ms. Stewart was mentored and studied writing under the guidance of many famous authors and writers such as: Max Segal, a former journalist for the New York Times, Emile Capouya, a renown author and Paul Cherry, a playwright for Broadway. In 1978, Sophia Stewart was selected by WNET Thirteen (PBS Channel) to participate in their internship program, where she worked with producer Perry Miller Adato. Upon graduation, Stewart decided to continue her education. In 1979, her love and skills for writing motivated her to move from New York City to Los Angeles to study Cinema at the University of Southern California Film School (USC). It was there she had the opportunity to study Cinema under Leon Roth who is the father of Eric Roth, screenwriter of the movie Forrest Gump. He was one of many who encouraged her and later on became her friend and mentor. At this time, she was working on the West Coast as a Correspondent for a national publication located in New York City. As a result of this affiliation, Ms. Stewart met and made many important contacts in the entertainment industry, which inspired her to keep her dreams and goals alive. By the early 80's she had started writing professionally. It was through her association with the entertainer Janet Jackson that she became involved in a special project that enable to write her first television scripts entitled "My Special Love" and "Blue Short". During this period Ms Stewart also had the opportunity to work at Columbia Pictures in the office of Vice President Dick Berres. It was at Columbia Pictures where Dick Berres knew of her aspirations to write and gave Sophia five first draft scripts. One was called "From Here to Eternity" Ms Stewart then went on to write and develop her monumental Epic called "The Third Eye." Currently Ms Stewart is a producer and a published poet who has many poems under her belt. She is a viable professional screenwriter who serves also as a consultant to entities in the movie and performing arts industry. |
